Philosophical art created to give you something to think with.
Cosmo – Kwame Anthony Appiah is a unique portrait that revolves around cosmopolitanism: being human in the world without closing oneself off in the easy answers of identity. The work invites reflection on belonging, culture, and ethics—how we can be both grounded and open.
Philosophical anchor
The work stands at the intersection of cosmopolitanism, postcolonial ethics, and pragmatic humanism: it explores how belonging need not be a boundary, but can be a way of being in the world. Here, identity becomes a conversation—belonging without closing off, and taking the world seriously without losing what is near. To be open is also to be obligated. When does your “we” become a community—and when does it become a boundary?

Handling & care
Your Pontoppidan Art print deserves care. Avoid direct sunlight and high humidity to protect the paper and colours. Handle the print with clean, dry hands and hold it gently by the edges. Framing behind glass helps protect it from dust and touching. Dust the frame with a soft, dry cloth and avoid applying cleaning products directly to the print.
About the artist / concept
Pontoppidan Art is my artistic project, where philosophy becomes visual art. I paint to think — and to give others something to think with. Through images, words, colours and materials, I explore human experiences and tensions between thought and feeling. My aim is to make room for philosophical knowledge, curiosity and reflection in everyday life. Each work opens a question you can take into your own life.

What is a philosophical anchor?
A philosophical anchor is the thought and question a work begins with. It may be rooted in a philosophical tradition, a concept or a human experience.
The anchor offers a way into the work and leaves room for your own interpretation — an invitation to think with art.
